Last weekend we experienced early morning fog as the cool evening air flowed over the warmer lake water. I was out early to see this and was rewarded with some beautiful sights. This first photo was taken along the O’Brian Trail (#36) near Meech Lake. I’d noticed this dead tree lying in the water on other times when I hiked past this spot but this morning it stood out dramatically: with the monochromatic colour as a result of the fog it seemed almost otherworldly with its dead grey branches reaching out and spiralling around its trunk. I was rather pleased to be there at the right moment to capture this scene.
This second photo was taken a little bit later and it was serendipitous that I was able to capture the fog moving out over Meech Lake. I had been preoccupied with taking a photo in the other direction with my back to the lake, as the fog over the lake was so dense nothing could be seen there. Not getting much satisfaction with my efforts I stood up and turned around to gaze at the lake, just in time to see the fog lift off the water and move out. It is truly a beautiful lake and I feel a thrill every time I’m there.
