Fortune Lake has such character, from whatever angle you view it, and whatever time of year. It changes so over the season which is one of the reasons I’ve found myself returning every now and then this summer to see what is emerging. I’ve found I prefer the view from the ‘other side of the lake’ rather than the parkway side, to me well worth the walk.
My first photo was taken in May of this year with the vibrancy of the new spring growth and higher water level feeding plant and animal life in abundance. Wherever you look on this lake there is something happening – beaver activity, swamps and all the growth and plant life they support and, rotting and dead trees nurturing new growth in the ecosystem. I love this May photo because of the variation in the greens, and the patterns of the growth on the lake.
My second photo was taken on a hot, hazy humid September 1st. The water level is much lower and the plant growth has taken over the water surface. In this photo the water lilies covering the water surface create a multi layer effect allowing us to see the sky and the reflections of the trees in the depth of the shallow waters.
