I’ve loved this delightful little lake since I was a teenager and would walk from Kingsmere Lake along Kingsmere Rd to visit it, a road that no longer exists. In the past few years I often take a break from a walk or snowshoe outing to sit along its shore and simply breathe in its beauty. There is a special spirit feel at this place.
I was here early on Saturday morning with Harry, my photo teacher, and it was cold. The first time this season for me to wear gloves, and Harry was wearing a down vest. We were talking about the challenges of capturing the emotional feelings we experience at special places and how all we can do sometimes is capture photos that become place cards or reminders for us of these special feelings. As we talked we saw the sun slowly rising behind the ridge of trees on the opposite side of the lake and realized that here was another opportunity for me to try to capture a sun starburst. We were blessed with such a beautiful clear blue sky to contrast with the silhouette of the trees. I find this photo conveys early morning chilliness and at the same time a promise of an autumn warmth in the mid day.
We returned to the lake later in the morning when the sun was higher, creating a beautiful pattern of greenish reflections in the water to contrast with the brilliance of the sun on the branches of the hemlock tree hanging over the water. Such a different atmosphere and yet it was the same lake, just a few hours later. I felt so blessed that morning to be able to experience these glorious fall days in our Gatineau Park.
