Arctic Crispness

An Arctic front moved in overnight after I’d taken the photos in the previous posting, plummeting the temperature to -20C with a wind chill of -29C. Overnight, ice formed on the streams: angular, patterned, multi shaped crystals on the surfaces of the exposed creeks. The air was crisp, the ground squeaky, and the branches cracking all around us as we hiked. Even with eyes closed one could feel the difference from the day before: the texture and atmosphere of the woods was  more an energized presence than a soft peacefulness.   I enjoyed Kody’s companionship as I sat on a footbridge relaxing into the view of one of my favourite streams near Mulvihill Lake. Even at this frigid temperature!
