I am so attracted to creeks, particularly as the season changes.
Last November I was captured by the scenes of freeze up with ice forming on the crests of the rocks and boulders. At this time of year, I’m drawn to the strength of the higher spring flow cutting through the remnants of the winter’s ice and snow. And the rocks! I just love seeing them exposed again after the long winter.
The temperatures overnight this week have been cold enough to allow the creation of fascinating ice patterns on branches, tree stumps and rocks in these streams which by early afternoon have already softened and become much less spectacular. The sun at this time of year is softer and brings a warmer colour to the landscape than in November. So, while I may be looking at the same creeks my experiences are unique to the season.
This week I had a couple of outings on the Wolf Trail and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of ice shapes created by the rushing water as it passed over boulders and tree branches. It was beautiful. I wasn’t there at the best times of day for photo taking, nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed myself sipping coffee at the creek edge and taking in the view. I’m still finding it a challenge to take photos that convey all of this beauty and have a lot to learn, so I know I’ll be back next spring to attempt it again.
Here are a few photos of this lovely creek.
