Walking on the trails today near Notch Rd. it was lovely seeing the ground covered by wild flowers at their various stages of growth. However, with no green yet on the trees the forest presented quite a grey colour, until we came across a stretch with a hint of green overhead, foretelling what is to come. It reminded me of a poem I read about a month ago, when a few of us were anticipating the arrival of spring.
April Prayer
Just before the green begins there is the hint of green
a blush of colour, and the red buds thicken
the ends of the maple’s branches and everything
is poised before the start of a new world.

The forest in the Gatineau Park is much slower to green up than the areas at lower altitudes, but as I walked here today it truly felt as if it were ‘poised’ to burst into its finest greenery.
