This past week, I don’t know why, but wherever I looked when out hiking my eyes were attracted to the reds standing out against the greenness of the forest. No matter the size, my eye was drawn to them. So often I think of the month of July in the forest as being – well, green. Green ferns of all varieties and such a plethora of green ground covers along with the dense greenery of the trees and bushes. I don’t think I expect the reds until later in the summer and early fall. So, I have to admit that I haven’t been paying attention other years, or, for some reason, this year may be different. Along with the beautiful red Sumac berries are so many others that I can’t name. I now have another project to identify all these different plants that have only one thing in common, that they produce red berries. Here a number of these berries.
