Water, water everywhere. That’s how it felt on my recent photo outing to the Laurentians with Harry Nowell. I loved every moment of it and, it was so energizing. That’s my experience of water – I’m totally hypnotized by it and at the same time energized by its persistent, endless, abundant flow over waterfalls and rapids. Just doing its thing, day after day after day and not giving up. Watching it connects me with geological time and the ongoing daily creation of the world around us – the emergence of our mountains and their patient wearing down to plains. It reminds me of my place in this amazing universe. I guess that’s the hypnotic part of it.
So, when taking photos of all this water the past few days I played around with fast shutter speeds, stopping the water in its tracks creating crisp appearances, and slow shutter speeds. I preferred the latter as it illustrated to me that endless eternal flow of water over the Precambrian Shield and it’s role in shaping the beautiful striking landscape. And in this second photo, I love that this little green plant is thriving in the midst of all this energy and turbulence, apparently quite oblivious to it all. Simply staking its place in the mysterious order of things.
