Two weeks ago I was enjoying myself skiing on trails that crossed over creeks and swamps without disruption but we’ve had a lot of rain since as well as more of that welcome intense spring sun. So today I went to check out the spring flow of Meech Creek, my favourite creek that for some reason I’m drawn to monitor. I say ‘drawn’ because that’s exactly how it feels. It feels like there’s something primal about connecting with the ebb and flow of nature’s rhythms and with this creek its so easy to see this rhythm. It’s very grounding for me to see that nature continues its patterns oblivious to whatever craziness exists out there in the world.
So today I discovered the water level higher than this time last year and, it is still rising. These photos start with the outlet from Meech Lake, to the turbulence at the Carbide Ruins, to where the creek meets Trail #50 and, finally where the creek meets the covered Bridge on Cross Loop Rd. While its overflow obliterates the familiar, I know that it also provides the nourishment necessary for the next phase of nature’s cycle. I’m still wondering though, how the beaver dam at Trail #50 will survive all this flow as its been part of the familiar landscape for me for a number of years.
