I spent the past week canoe camping on the south shore of Philip Edward Island, in Georgian Bay out from Killarney. This is Group of Seven country and my friend Sue and I felt so at home with it all – the rocky terrain, the harsh winds, and the changeable weather shaping the dynamics of the water. Yes, out there we had to be ready for unpredictable weather. The word we used for how we felt was ‘seamless’. We felt at home with it all – we had a pair of herons calling out to us as they did their early morning fly pasts, while geese also gave us early morning honks as they flew over our site. Being out there, at one with the environment, was a gift to experience the different moods of this place – the serene peacefulness of the place while having early morning coffee on the rocks as the sun rose, followed by experiencing the energy of daytime winds and surf. Truly a sacred place to experience.
