Arctic Front

Winter has arrived when its -21C at 10am, which is what it was on Thursday morning. It would have been so easy to stay home, especially after listening to the doomsday weather report, yet we were so glad we ventured out.  We’d prepared ourselves  –  big fat mitts full of hot shots,  heavy down jackets, thick hats and wind proof pants.  With all this gear on we really didn’t feel the fierceness of the arctic temperature and wind.

At this temperature the air is so clear its possible to hear things that otherwise aren’t even noticed.  Sounds are different too –  lots of creaking and cracking trees and branches, and snow squeaking and creaking under our feet. Ice patterns on the creeks contain more crystals resulting from the rapid freeze.  It’s all so beautiful to experience.

These are some photos of the creek near the Mackenzie King Estate.
